Nea Roda is built in front of the sea, on the narrowest strip of land of the Athos peninsula, which was opened by Persian king Xerxes in 480 b.C., to drive his fleet against Greece.

This geographical position allows the modern village to be a summer resort, as its endless sandy beach, its view to Akanthios Bay and Athos and short distance – just 2km – from the bay of Mount Athos make it ideal destination for theme and summer holidays.

What can you do in Nea Roda?

You can swim in the magnificent, crystal waters of the Akanthios Bay  and enjoy water sports, games on the sand and fishing in the picturesque fish port with the typical Agios Nikolaos church, you will walk along the mapped hiking trail of Xerxes (from the port of the village to the port of Tripiti and from there to the island of Ammouliani), you will visit the Church of Panagia, with its historic, Russian altar (if it is 23 August you will participate in the exceptional religious festival, attracting thousands of visitors), you will organise a visit to neighbouring archaeological sites: Monastery of Zigos (on the borders of Mount Athos),  the Sanctuary of Ancient Ouranoupoli and Ancient Akanthos – all within a few minutes distance from the village, you will participate in the events reviving the tradition of Asia Minor, organised by the local cultural association, while on the last Monday of July you will taste fresh seafood at the “Sardines Feast”…

Do you want more? You will certainly find more in Nea Roda!
